Linoleum Print Making

     In this project we used linoleum squares to make prints of an animal scene. I used an armadillo with a wooded area as my background. Even though armadillo's aren't native to wooded areas, I wanted to do something different. We first found reference images on google and printed those out. With those we combined them and created a new sketch that incoorperates elements from the reference images. Next we took tracing paper and traced the image from our sketch books on the paper. We then traced it again onto the linoleum square. From there, we used a gouge tool, linoleum cutter, to cut out the different shapes and areas of color. We then used a brayer to roll ink onto the linoleum square and then layed it on a piece of paper. The image transfered onto the paper and made a print. You need to do a couple prints to figure out how much or how little ink to use. Once I figured it out I chose colored paper and ink and made my final prints. Overall, I was happy with how they turned out but I think I could've done better with the actual drawing. I had fun with this project and hope to do it again!

Photoshop- Frog and Tongue

     In this project I created a frog tongue. I combined two different pictures (frog, mouth) into one. There are a lot more steps in this one than the last one. First you have to crop the frog picture so it's just the frog and no background. Then, you position the frog so that it has the same curvature in the shape of the tongue. Next, you use a tool that copies the color of the tongue which you then add to the frog so it gives it the same color. That process is tedious and a little time consuming because you have to get just the tongue color and not the teeth or lips. After that, you have to use an eraser to erase the hind legs and keep the shape of the tongue so it all flows. Then, you have to blend the frog shape to the tongue at the edges so it flows. Once all that is done the frog almost looks realistic in the shape of the tongue. There are some other tools you can use to help darken and lighten up some areas so it looks even more real. This project was fun to do and I feel like I did pretty well on it. I liked it better than the last because I knew more of what I was doing on this!

Photoshop- Pancake Jaws

   
     Today we used Photoshop to make this pancake with jaws. First you start with two different images (pancakes, fish with jaws). You upload the pancake picture and worked with it so you could fit the jaws on the picture so it looks almost real. You widen the space where the jaws will go. Next, you upload the picture of the fish with the jaws and crop and cut it so just the jaws are there. Then, you fit and adjust the jaws so they fit in the hole in the pancake. Afterwards you can do some editing around the edges to it flows better. I had to go back and mess with the hole in the pancake a couple of times before I got the shape I wanted. This was harder than it looks, but also pretty interesting and fun to work with. This is not that great but I hope to work with it some more and perfect other projects I do in Photoshop!

Stencil Project

This project was a long process from start to end. I chose to do a picture of my best friend, Lydia. First I put the picture into photoshop and inverted the original colors into 3 different colors, or more. Next, I projected the picture onto poster board and traced each shape of each color on a different poster board. Then, I took a blade and cut out the shapes so it became a stencil. I painted a piece of cardboard for the background and then one by one placed the stencils on the cardboard and spray painted each stencil. The finished product looked pretty cool! It wasn't perfect because the last stencil didn't line up perfectly but it still looked cool. This project was really fun and I hope to do something like it again!

iPad Value Drawing

    This is a drawing was made on Layers Pro on the iPad. This was much easier to do than with oil pastels. For starters, you could erase or undo a mistake you made and on paper you can not do that. Also it was easier to stay in the lines and not run all the colors together. Also with the layers, you could draw on the shapes without interfering with the background. I am happy with the work I did on this project. It is also important to use technology in art because it lets one explore and create different things that you could not do on paper.  

Contour Line Shoe Drawing

     This shoe is drawn by contour line drawing. This is a Sperry Top-Siders shoe brand. At first when we started the contour lines it was not turning out very well. As we went on and practiced and learned different ways of making the drawings, I made progress. As you can see this drawing is not very well detailed or drawn. I could have put more effort into this drawing and how it looked.

Cartoon Skeleton- Tigger

     In this drawing I used Tigger for my cartoon character. I chose this picture because I liked the shape his body was in. I used pretty basic bones starting put but when I got to the hands I made them round without fingers because that is what it looks like on the outside. This was one of my very first drawings so I didn't do as well as I thought I could have. Bones are hard to draw so I struggled some on this project. This project was fun to have as a starter project and I hope to continue to improve throughout the semester!
